Yes Niner_Boy has been coherent and too the point I will concede that

:)

He stayed on topic and solved the problem - kif guy

You flew in the face of all the previous posters and tried to prove your "there is holes everywhere theorem" , and you went to quantam mechanics level of detail.

Yes there are holes in all gearing systems - yip we know that , thats life - no infinitely variable gearing system has been invented for MTB.

But the actual problem we were contending with is that there is a difficulty in making a 2x9-speed system as most chainrings sizes were designed for ratios using 3 ring systems.

Its a little bit of a challenge to work out which rings to use so the ratios are niiiiceeeeeeee.

Thats why I posted.

But I do think your gear changing technique is probably not the hottest.

But on that particular subject I think you and I should just disagree agreeably.

Then we can be friends and not mortal foes

Okay - I misinterpretted your problem. Good luck with the project.

Climate thanks for disagreeing so agreeably throughout your responses!!

I must admit I have been a bit of a twat in my responses to you , sometimes I just take the internets a little too personally.

My apologies and thank you for your input

No problem SkyLark ... would be keen to know what's happening with that idler gear on your RD though. Doesn't make sense that it's getting chewed up.
