  1. Good grief!!! Different level bike-porn. How did they "wrap" those bars? And the welds are simply breathtaking
  2. Having upgraded to Windows 10, my Polar InfraRed USB device no longer was recognized. After hours of trawling the web and attempting various drivers, the following doc solved the problem: https://ww2.scubapro.com/media/870734/scp_support_irda_windows_10-en.pdf Note that I am still using the black Polar USB device.
  3. As promised - project complete , with (other) components sourced from all over the globe
  4. Thanks for those kind words - can't afford to waste any more time on this ... I've got a bike to build :-)
  5. Sorry I wasn't able to provide feedback in time for some Friday evening entertainment ... but here's the update: I shared the link to this thread with the seller via Hub mail, then also left a message on his mobile. I suspect the activity on this thread was instrumental in triggering comms again, to the extent that he has agreed to refund a percentage of the costs towards replacing the ErgoLevers (I have sourced pre-used in good condition on Ebay). The reason I was reluctant to name and shame, was partially because I am an eternal optimist ... but also because I did some homework on the seller. He appears to have good potential as a young cyclist (possibly even pro) ... and I am well aware of how difficult it is to secure sponsorship, etc. So I'm hoping he's learned a valuable lesson (at my expense) on what is expected as honest trading with fellow cyclists. He has exhibited remorse in the recent comms. Unfortunately for him, seems some Hubbers have exercised their investigative tendencies and already identified the ad in question. As for the bike shop: upon receipt of the package, I actually phoned them back, suspecting that they'd described a different groupset :-) But I have subsequently called the owner as well, to make him aware of my disapproval and have also shared the link to this thread with him, in the hope that he responds ... he has committed to speaking to the employee that provided the (mis)information. But I am now moving on from this experience and look forward to getting the bike build project underway (therapy in itself).
  6. I've notified the seller and shared the link, in the hope that this can be settled amicably before naming names. Thanks for the advice.
  7. I have performed many memorable transactions on the Hub, both sales and purchases. But my most recent transaction has been completely different and am looking for advice on what action to take. All comms was via mail or WhatsApp, as I am in Cpt and the Seller in Jhb. I have a passion for slightly older bikes and have built up many over the years ... my most recent project being a classic. I have recently acquired a Colnago C40 frame in excellent condition, so when I saw an advert for a complete Campag Super Record groupset that had "never crashed" with approx 10 000km for R12000, I was immediately interested. But I noticed in the advert that the cassette was 14-25, which I wasn't aware Campag even offered ... and asked to exclude the cassette (since a 14 small sprocket wouldn't work for me) and the price was reduced by R1000, which seemed reasonable. But because I was not able to view the groupset personally, I asked to speak to the LBS that was dismantling the bike for the seller (well renowned shop btw). The shop informed me that the groupset was "shiny and new" and indicated that there were not even scuff marks on the cranks arms. Since the Campag Ultra-torque crank has ceramic BB bearings attached to the axles, I specifically asked about the conditions of the bearings, which the shop rep told me were "perfect". Based on that feedback, I went ahead with the EFT. The package arrived 3 days later ... and upon opening it that evening, found the following: - Both hoods were torn - The right brake lever housing was damaged so that the lever does not return under its own lightweight spring - The right hand shift lever (under the brake lever) has been replaced, but not with a carbon Super Record lever, so does not match the left lever. - The crank arms have got grooves worn into them from rubbing on cycling shoes, which are deep enough to have removed some of the Campagnolo logo (under the clearcoat) - The BB bearing on the drive side could be spun freely and heard from at least a meter away as it continued to spin. I contacted the seller (via WhatsApp) that same evening, to inform him of the issue with the lever, in the hope of returning the set of levers for a refund. I was disappointed, but prepared to live with the crank condition and hoped that servicing the BB bearing was all that was required. His response however was that the lever was "working okay" when he sent it to me. I then sent photos and a short video demonstrating the problem. The final response (he has subsequently failed to respond), was that the groupset was "sold at a very good price" and he is willing to "help with R1000 towards a replacement shifter". I have provided my bank details and followed up asking if any refund was made, but as mentioned above ... no response ... and no refund. It is 2 weeks now since I last attempted calling the seller directly as well as via WhatsApp and mail on the Hub, requesting simply to reverse the entire transaction. So all components are still in the box as received (since I don't yet have bars, stem or headset for the frame, so have not commenced with the build).

  9. Haven't rated him yet, but will do as you advise and send him link, in the hope issue can still be rescued to some degree. Thanks for the advice wrt new thread.

  11. Thanks for the info DJR ... had to check for local availability first, but will resort to Ebay for the correct item if all else fails.
  12. I've recently acquired a Colnago C40 frame, but am in need of a seatpost (28,0mm). Please let me know if someone has a spare Colnago seatpost out there.
  13. That tandem in the background is really interesting ... usually the cross-member was pretty "slim" when the extended seatstays were present.
  14. Reckon it's fair to say that "quite nice" is an understatement!!
  15. These are not "folks" ... the correct term also starts with an F and ends with an S, but has 2 syllables!!

  17. That's an appropriate nom de plume Loose Cog
  18. Seems the 28h are pretty difficult to come by (even on Ebay), but if you're prepared to carry the shipping costs, this place has stock: http://www.ciclicorsa.com/en/negozio/cerchio-crono-f20/
  19. Done as well. Can also attest to needing an unusual headset nut (actually approached Nils with the intention of finding some alternative ... but he rummaged through some spares and found exactly what I was looking for).
  20. Have to go with Pure Savage on this one ... maybe not necessarily Enve, but stiff carbon wheelset first.
  21. Have you considered using a clamp adaptor, that the braze-on bolts on to?
  22. St ... uh ... ning!!! And looks just my size
  23. I too have been mulling the idea over, of doing the Argus on my BiTitan Master ...
