HI Guys

I currently have a Giro Ionos which needs replacing so am looking for a new helmet. Must be light, which all of these are although Rudy seem slightly heavier than the other two. The Spez seems a little more expensive but I haven't used Spez or Rudy so cant compare on fit, comfort longevity etc to the Giro. so any comments to guide would be appreciated.

The Giro prolight is the lightest helmet available. 172 grams I think. The aeon is a nice helmet, but seems to be much more expensive, also light, but weighs in at around 220 grams.

Rudy = helluva comfortable, not as light as my Giro Pro Lite.

The most important criteria is FITMENT.

Make sure it's comfortable.

Test a few.

What is cool fit for me, might not be a cool fit for you.

If it's comfy, then weight is less important to a degree.

Had the Rudy Sterling, as comfortable as 'Dale said, but a bit heavy.

Had the Giro Ionos, nothing wrong, and a great helmet.

Have the Spez Prevail (x2) and will wear nothing else.

Check the cost of replacing the inner sponge bits when they wear out / disintegrate. The Rudy Project sponge inserts cost about R300, the Specialized about R100 and the Giro about R50 as far as I know. If they only last a year (as in the case of my Rudy helmet), it could get quite expensive to maintain.

Just purchased my Rudy Windmax and rode 50miles this weekend. all i can say is Wow! best fit helmet I've owned. feels nothing on the head. The large vents lets in lots of air and cools my head really well. I love this helmet... I was going with either Ionos or Prevail until i saw Windmax. The look alone is awesome and fit is nothing like others- lots of cushion.
