food for thought...

on your mtb you will find a stem which mounts onto the top part of the fork/headset - you get the idea...

fact is that it is quite a sharp and dangerous part of the bike...

i nearly decapitated a very important body part today when an emergy stop caused me to smash into this bit of the bike...

question i have - where can i buy a proper 'wetsuit' like cover which does not look stupid but will still give some protection...

sh*t happens... like the single track champion today who went off to medi-clinic with a tree branch piercing right through her arm...

BMX racers usually have padding on their handlebars and over the "stem" area for the same reason.

I haven't seen a neoprene "wetsuit" cover for a stem before but I'm sure you could make one.

Eina Ouch

On a similar vein: the greatwhite ripped the smaller back pockets off his brand new Camelbak Mule while following me through a nice fast piece of singletrack at Van Gaalens. We ducked under a fallen over tree but it got caught on a short pruned branch facing downwards. Was a mighty RIIIIPPPP. Cry

Bit of a downer to have to go home and explain to your wife that you broke her xmas present to you on it's first outing.
