Hi

Please could I get an opinion from one of the experienced mountain goats :) I'm trying to put an mtb build together.

Looking at the above wheelset/fork combo.

I will be looking to do mostly XC/marathon riding, but I'd like to be able to rock up to any of the funrides on the calendar without worrying about breaking my bike!

I have read quite a bit where folks are praising the 15mm through-axle. Should I be concerned about going 9mm QR or is it ok?

Any other advice is appreciated.

You cant really go wrong with a Sid! I do stupid stuff - more guts that talent - and have never had any problems - just service regularly!

As for the QR vs Thru - Ive always ridden QR, never had any problems.

I cant comment on the Eastons - never ridden them.

Thanks Vinny that gives me comfort.

It seems the majority of good (easily available) stuff is still 9mm, but i don't want to regret it later.

The Easton wheels are bullet proof 2 options are the ea90's about 1700g and the ea70's 1824g which I have they are great and bonus is proper UST rim, no rim tape

More and more I can feel the difference with a Thru axle and the beauty that people forget is that if you take the the wheel off 99% of the time there is no issue with the brakes rubbing on the disc thru misalignment

If there is misalignment in the stationary position you have to wonder what is happening when you hit the trails

I'm so impressed that my next ride I will go for a rear thru-axle aswell

The Sids are great shocks cant go wrong

I found that a 15mm front end gives my bike more rigidity thus making the steering more responsive - so I now go faster - which translates in to bigger wipe outs!!!!!!!

I have EA90 XC's have to change the back bearings often and have already broken two spokes if I break another one I think they may respoke it under warranty, heard there was a bad batch. Otherwise they are nice and light and role great also look very bling on my bike.
