X7 RD, excessive "play" or not!?

Whilst servicing my Mtb over the weekend, I noticed that my X7 RD has sideways movement at the pivot point where it attaches to the dropout. It moves quite a bit laterally, even though it is a fairly new RD (bought in 2011 and done less than 1000km, all fairly "light" km's). The bolt attaching it to the dropout is tight, etc.

Is this part of the design, should it have this movement?

SRAM derailers come standard with play, lots of it. It appears quite sloppy if compared to Shimano, but that's the way it is.
