Missed last years DC, out of SA, but in 2010 we managed a 7hr10 carrying 3 weak riders, whom needed to be pushed up the last rollers.

First and formost you NEED a really jacked support crew. This is where you lose major time if messing with finding your feed bags......AND YOU NEED TO EAT!!

You can maintain a much higher ave speed than 30kmh. It's the climb that costs time if there are weak links in the team. DO NOT be fooled by the flat profile of the last quater of the race.....there are leg killing rollers!

If you have a well greased machine:

1) awesome support with allocated feed areas, by people that think like cyclist.

2) at least 5 really strong riders

3) fewer that 3 weaker riders, that you are willing to lose along the route

4) MOST important a GOOD team leader, voted in by team. everyone must be willing to take his orders.

This is how you kill a sub 7!

Oh and riders willing to SUFFER! :cursing:

Cheers @LOUDMAC.The Hub B / social team target is a much less ambitious 8.5 to 9.5 target, but it's great to get some feedback from those who have done it before - I'm sure a lot of your thoughts apply to all teams, whatever their speed. Especially the bit about the last quarter of the race, very tempting to look at the profile and think the work is all done so very handy to know we must keep something in the tank.

yeah, it applies to anyone that wants to finish!

The rule of thumb on any long ride, be it 100km or 500km....."never ride the red", as in...keep the heart rate below 75%. The ride will take care of itself.

Oh ...... and eat!

berry, if you be doing 30km average, you belong in the A team.

Coach Walkerr, is there a C or D team? Going social sounds cool - but I need to do some reading on audax speeds etc.

I just want to know, would you be keen on two laps ?

Yip. We had this all waxed last year. 6:25 odd

Just remember to allow for 'technicals'. We had a puncture in the first 10Km of the race, another team member dropped off up Op de Tradouw Pass with a puncture (and didn't notify us), another strong guy broke a spoke on the way to Bonnievale.

We finished with 6 guys with two of us (including me) suffering with the onset of cramps.
