Azonic Posted April 16, 2012 Share Built mine with full XT for around 12k. Been riding it for almost 3 years, no problems Will soon be replace with 29er, also ma'China I also have a spark 30 carbon, but mostly rides the china That's a very "famous" 26'er blank that. See it on eBay often. I found the thread on MTBR Forums, most/all guys are very happy with their "blanks". When our car is paid off in a few months, I'll be ordering one of these 29er built kits. The lekker thing is I have a bike hanging in the cupboard with a complete drivetrain in decent condition. Shifters, alles. I've also got a brand new crankset in a box. So with this having just about alles, I can get this here for around R6k or so, and just get a set of wheels. So for R10k you've got a very nice 29er. Some guys are selling their cheap wheels here for R1k, so if on a budget I can get away with R7k to have a full carbon bike. Noice.
eitan Posted April 16, 2012 Share Spot the difference? The only real differences I can see is around the BB area... and around R10k. But that is a big difference - it is often at the BB that these Chinese rip offs fail. Then again; you can buy two frames for the price of one branded frame. http://paradisebicycles.net/images/library/large/scott_218178_11_m.jpg
Azonic Posted April 16, 2012 Share That might be true to some extent , I'd rather be on a plain black no name carbon than on a painted one called "Spoetnik " Same, full blank carbon. What's the point in having a certain sticker on anyway? I ride a WhizBang Super 29'er. Gee, well done. Pfffft. Give me clean carbon, sexy and light. RaymondC Posted April 16, 2012 Share No stickers.... No teeth & a broken collarbone. Good luck to anyone with a blank frame purchase.
dee jay Posted April 16, 2012 Share Guys, have a look at the "Bikes, Frames and Forks" forum on roadbikereview.com - makes for some very interesting reading... Seems as if there have only been a handful of frame failures, and a number of these have been related to incorrect installation of headsets, seatposts etc. Some of the guys have been riding these frames for 3 or more years... Not a fan of the fact that these are, for all intents and purposes, knock-offs of established brands, but they do add an interesting DIY aspect to cycling... And for R8k or so you can buy a Giant XTC Comp 29er frame with a proper racing pedigree in the World Cup XC and marathon stage, plus a lifetime warranty. http://www.giant-bicycles.com/_generated/_generated_us/bikes/models/images/2000/FR-XtC_Composite_29er.jpg

sometime Posted April 16, 2012 Share Your lifetime or a "frame lifetime"? Lifetime of the original owner. The point being the product is of such good quality that the manufacturer is willing to offer this type of warranty. You'll get nothing from any blank manufacturer. I cracked a Gian Anthem frame after 2.5 years of racing - they replaced it a week later. I have a friend who crashed a Volcan 29er HT recently - he was able to ride the rest of the race but let's just say that riding a bike with the downtube broken in half was "interesting". schmoose Posted April 16, 2012 Share You know carbon is a joke when folks quote 3 years as a long time for a frame to last. whistler

sometime Posted April 16, 2012 Share No you cant.....or if you can where???We are talking frames...not built up packages I said around R8k - I actually paid R8.5k after my loyal customer discount. Check with your LBS and their recommended retail price should be R9.5k

sometime Posted April 16, 2012 Share What's the name of your LBS? Would prefer to keep that to myself but any decent LBS should offer their good customers a discount on the retail price and the frame prices I mention above are correct.
