Back to the grindstone after a fantastic weekend at Storms Rivier . Hats of to Dryland for organising a great event . Unfortunately the weather once again put a bit of a damper on things the last day . When the wife and I woke up at 3:00 on the last day with the rain and wind outside , and after already testing the wife's sense of humour the previous day with all the mud , we chickened out of the last day , and decided to rather start the journey back to Potch a little earlier . I am by no means a fair weather cyclist , but I don't really enjoy starting a race in the rain , and I also did not want the wife to end such a nice weekend on a low . From the pictures that I saw of the last day it was mud , mud and then some mud . You guys doing the last day are serious hardcore mtbikers ! Any hubbers that did the last day ?

Ps. Flymango ; thanks for the beers and very nice meeting you .

Ditto. Nice to meet you and your wife too. What a small world it is. We missed you at the start on Sunday morning.

The last day was cold and muddy but loads of fun. I really enjoyed the three days of riding, and must also compliment Dryland for their superb arrangements and attention to detail.

They understand the stage race market and have cleverly positioned this event for the first-timers and/or families.

To summarise:

- a doable and scenic yet testing route, albeit a bit muddy

- a great venue, good accommodation and fantastic food

- the best water points I've ever encountered in any race (fruit, sweets, koeksisters, potatoes, braai wors, hot chocolate, cleaning of glasses, washing and lubing of chains, ice in water bottles, isotonic drinks, Coke, water, ....)

- fantastic vibe and party-atmosphere at prize giving each night

- excellent handouts including First Ascent jackets and goodie bags in our rooms after each day (thanks Sanlam!!)

Highly recommended in my opinion!

I was very keen to do this again next year, but at R9500 (if you like to stay at the Inn) to have my wife support me for about a 150km ride over 3 days seem excessive. Its a pity because I had such a jol this year.

I'd rather add a few Nelsons and do Joberg2C 6 day option.

10.5% increase from last year. mmmmmm ....

It's a great event and well worth it for a more family orientated outing. Also great for first-timers wanting to tackle a stage race. Highly recommended but a case of been there, done that. There are so many choices right now and I certainly have a time and budget constraint. Dryland's Tankwa event in the Cederberg could be one to try next - they are great event organisers!!

Only if you plan on riding with the missus. This year we had the option to enter solo (for half the entry of a team entry) and the add on for partners was something like R1700 if I remember correctly. For the extra R3000 my wife will only get a jacket extra (and she hijacked mine this year anyway as it was too big for me).
