Mutual & Federal Botswana support local cyclists

Mutual & Federal Botswana have made funds available to assist in sending 2 of Botswana ‘s top local development cyclists to the Joberg2C mountain bike race starting on the 27th April 2012.

Jabu Tabulane and Tumisang Ramasankate, have been selected by the Gaborone Cycling Club to represent the club’s development team in this 925km, 9 day cycling race.

Commenting on the opportunity to sponsor these 2 athletes, Jack Bekker, the managing director of Mutual & Federal Botswana, and a former keen cyclist himself, said that his company supports the advancement of young men and women in sport.

Mutual & Federal Botswana is part of the Old Mutual Group, one of the largest Insurance Groups in Southern Africa. Old Mutual is the main sponsor of the Joberg2C mountain bike event, and then Group is keen to encourage all people especially the youth to look after their health and take up sports such as cycling.

The 9 day cycling event starts outside Johannesberg, near Heidelberg on the 27th April, and finishes at Scottburgh on the Natal south Coast on the 5th May, covering 925km.

Every day the riders will complete approximately 100kms, and will camp overnight at venues such as Frankfort, Sterkfontien dam, and Underburg.

There are over 300 teams of 2 competing in the event, with a number of professional teams, and the GCC’s Development team are hoping to put in a good performance overall. There are 3 other teams from the club competing in the event, and they will look to help mentor Jabu and Tumisang throughout the event.

This will be the first time that Tumisang will have competed in a multi stage mountain bike event outside of Botswana, and he commented that he and Jabu would like to thank Mutual & Federal Botswana for the wonderful opportunity, and that they will do their best to perform to the highest standard.

The event is being televised on the Supersport Channel 6 every evening at 9pm

Additional funding for them to attend the event has come from the Botswana Cycling Association and from the Gaborone Cycling club
