After taking my flash to the doctor today,(with no severe injuries) I am expecting quite a bill, just for it being Cannondale. So I came across an american site which cater mostly for cannondale (www.vitalmtb.com) to compare prices and try to understand why we pay so much for certain brands.

Well the Flash Alloy 29er 1 is available for USD 1499.00(+-R12000.00), and at our local bike shops, you are looking at R25000.00! Now I have heard of taxes+shipping+import duties, but how can this be? I am not pointing fingers at our lbs,but twice as much for the same product, someone somewhere must be having a laugh..

MSRP is $2550 in the states innit

The 1400 you saw must have been an old model or a scam site.

Site looked legit, but also looking for deraileur hangers.Over R400 locally, com pare to USD 28.

Phone around maybe a lbs has some old ones they want to get rid off.

Remember the lbs in rsa probably bought the hanger for $20 but sells it for R400

Apart from the Lefty (If your bike has one) the rest of your Cannondale is no harder to service/repair than any other modern bike, so your bill should be average. If you Lefty needs a service then it will have to be removed and sent to Omnibike - yes that might cost you. General maintenance on your Lefty you can do yourself.

Well the Lefty spills over into other areas, such as proprietary headset bearings (R1200 to replace), the OPI Stem and steerer (close to R2k, if you are lucky enough to find stock of the size you want), and the special front hub.

BB30 should be slightly cheaper to replace than a normal external BB, although the tools to remove and install are more expensive.
