17" GIANT XTC 2 - Does anyone in Gauteng own one?

Please help me with this one good people!

I may be looking at picking up tanya*'s Giant. Problem is that I'm in Gauteng and the bike's in the Cape. I need someone who'll let me have a short test ride on their bike, doesn't need to be offroad. I just need to get a feel for the geometry, since they sold the 17" as a size small, but my Mongoose is a 17,5" Medium and it fits fine.

If I break anything I'll personally see to it that your bike gets to Mike's Bikes or the mechanic of your choice for the repair, as well as a service at my cost.

Please pass this on to anyone that may have the specific bike, even if they're not on the Hub.

Thanks,

Hog.

(I'll PM me your phone number if you can help out)

You will have no probs with a Giant mate, I went from a meteore, to a giant XTC then to my present bike.

The bb clearence is much higher on the giant, thus, you will not gouge your 3rd chainring on every rock u find, the geometry is also very similar.

That's good to know! I managed to find the geometry of the 2005 bikes online, and it looks like the 17" may be too small for me though. The top tube length is actually a bit shorter than my Mongoose, and I feel a little cramped on it sometimes.

Not sure if this will help Hog, but I went from a 18" goose to a 17" giant. My present Ti Hardtail is a 16.5". I am running a 410 mm thompson seatpost all the way out and a 120 mm easton stem at the front. I am very comfortable on the bike as it is, and, am finding the low frame perfect for singletrack as I am able to throw it around alot. Thats just me. You will obviously have to make your own decisions but I reckon a smaller mtb is allways a good thing.

Ignore replies from Choice.  This new Hubber replies with this amount on every post!  Annoying indeed.

Ja I noticed. Should we put it to the test then?

Hey Choice? How much for your first-born? (Assuming you're allowed to breed.) Tongue

Which is why I want to test a 17" first. I like the idea of a slightly longer top tube with a shorter stem, that way there's less leverage from the wheel to     the handle-bar and vice versa. I did lower my handlebars on the Mongoose, which made the riding position much better, but the bike still feels a little cramped.

He might have a problem there, hog, I am quite sure that there is a law against mamalian experimental breeding.
