Hi Guys,

Maybe I can get some advise please.

I have a cannondale Supersix 105 spec.

My bike has Mavic Aksium rims on it.

I had a brand new pair of rims at home, (shimano R2-10), and I had a new shimano 105 cassette fitted 11/28.

I want to use these rims for training, suspect the mavics are better and dont need to get unneccesary damage.

My plan was to use the shimanos for training, The guy at the shop said I need to put a spacer/washer +/- 1mm over threaded part where skewer goes through which locate into the stays / hanger, the spacer to fit between axle nut and frame.

Apparently mavic and shimano have different spaces.

I am not that good with the technical details.

all advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Does not sound right. I think the spacer he's referring to is on the freehub fitting . If your Shimano wheels are fitted with a 9 speed freehub then you need the spacer on the free wheel before you fit the 10spd casette onto the wheel. If it is a 10spd specific freehub you don't need the spacer.

Try the wheels (not rims) on first before trying to find a problem where there isn't. They (the hubs) should be 10 speed (I am assuming you have 10 speed) compatible anyway, so no adjustment is needed.

Edit: clarifying statement

 only you'll know what you are trying to say there bud!

Its not the hub that can/need be 10 speed compatible as you put it but the freebody.

If you put a cassette on a freebody, tighten the lockring and there is still a bit of play (movement) in the cassette ... Then you need a spacer ... Simple really!

LOL! What I was getting it is that older wheels had 8 speed hubs - distance from end to end was narrower - but didn't want to confuse the oke. Thanks for clarifying that one :P

Hi Guys, Sorry for my bad explination.

I did put a 10 speed cassette on, ratio 11/28 if I understand correctly.

I currently have the same 10 speed cassette on the mavic as well.

So Ja **** confused ***** when he mentioned the spacer.
