Just to give an update/ conclusion for myself with regards to this whole saga.

Hannes has come good in making sure I am a happy customer. He has given me a great discount on a Pyro Light, which I should take delivery of next week. In saying this he has certainly come to the table in trying to rectify the whole issue/ situation with the Groupon deal. Since having spoken to him on the phone and via emails, I would now have no hesitation in recommending him for any future purchases you may have.

We all makes mistakes and I can now see it was a small error from myself for not reading enough into the deal, as well as the errors from Groupon and Pyro Lights. The fact that he has made good with a disgruntled customer says a lot to me about the type of person and business he is running.

I will give a review of the light once I have had a test ride and also take some pics regarding the difference in the lights.

Thank you Caerus. I am glad to have gotten to know you.

Mike the MJ880 is amazing light. enjoy the riding.

I've just posted a comparative review of a couple of Hannes's Pyrolights and my own MagicShine 872 here: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/117121-magicshinepyrolight-comparative-review/

One thing you'll notice is that my photos make the lights look a lot dimmer than some of the pictures posted in this thread. The thing is that most cameras (and cellphones) adjust their exposure automatically - I set the exposure (and the white balance) manually (same exposure for all three lights, of course) so the end result was pretty close to what I experienced, subjectively, on the bike.

In practice, all three lights are plenty bright - the issue, as I've indicated in the review, is more about beam shape, and where the light is mounted (handlebar or helmet). For my thoughts on the colour of the lights, you'll have to read the review.

Enjoy!

Thanks for this, i can however tell you that i turned all forms of adjustment and exposure off on my phone as one can do with an iPhone, but love your comparison, thanks.

Cameras and PC screens does make it hard to compare. But nothing beats real life.

I some times lend a pyrolights out to friend that don't have lights. and I have noticed that very few realize the light is different until i point it out. I think it has something to do with the fact that normal car headlights are much warmer and we are use to the colour of halogen. 2700k-3500K. Pyrolgihts are 4000K which is more white than halogen car head lights. Not as white as OEM HIDs (aka Xenon) which standard are 4300K and after market are can go up to 16000K.

Extreme-lights will have a 3000 lumen light soon. http://www.extremelights.co.za/products/goliath-3000-lumen-3xt6 this photo shows the light compared to a car halogen head lights.

I just can't see how people can notice the un-natural shift.

I can go indebted on why you can't compare the light from a Xenon with LED but i am sure you all will be board stiff. At the end it is a good thing to have a lots of light. What the white light consist of (Spectral power distribution) and how it effects us regarding visual performance is not that easy to quantify. Trust me i tried for a year and realized I should apply for a PHD to complete this.

1. Click here:

https://www.facebook.com/pyrolights

Read this on the FB page of pyrolights:

"Ever wonder how it is possible to buy a light for under R650 that looks like the Pyro 1000? easy we also considered it. that lights cost under R300 to land in ZA and we could make 100% markup(extreme lights selling their light for R600 which equates to a 100% markup). The major problem is our conscience.

The key advantages of the P1000 over cheaper alternatives are:

1. Unique 4000K Cree XM-L vastly improves colour contrast perception.

2. Waterproof rubber shell battery and light

3. Over heating protection. When maximum temperature is exceeded the units dim and will return to bright when cooled.

4. The battery capacity is shown by colour changing indicator on the rear.

5. ZA 2 point charger

6. Proven design and manufacture with excellent reputation. Pyro 1000 manufactured by Magicshine

7. 1 year warranty by local supplier with many happy clients. 8. Pyrolights can and has repair other magic-shine models not sold by us."

2. Now click here (extremelights):

http://www.thehubsa....m&item_id=30159

Notice this:

"

  • Water proof rubber shell battery 8800mAh and Velcro pouch
  • RED Tail light (2xAAA Batteries not included)
  • ZA Charger (No euro/US adaptor required)
  • 3 Strap Elastic Head band.
  • 2 size O-ring for mounting on bike handle bar.
  • Gift box"

You story never adds up.

So you in fact know who extreme lights are then?

Pfft.

Hannes distributes both products, hence why Groupon did not actually make any mistake on their original listing, Hannes has already come clean with this.

the intend was not to mislead anyone. And I never lied. I just don't want people to expect the same from both brand and would rather keep it separate. That is what happend. I tried my best to make it very clear for people buying that the two brand lights are different by giving it different brand names. I did not see the advert until it launch and when I did i had it changed as soon as possible. I did every thing i can to help Caerus even tough he should have read the advert before buying. The person who complied the advert was not present at the meetings nor did they consult me.

I did not want people to buy a standard light expecting it to be a 4000K Magicshine manufactured light which at the end is what happened.

Is "same holding company" a fancy word for "Sole Proprietor Hannes Zietsman"?

Us as in? Not Pyrolights but a different brand from the "same holding company" but different and still the same?

Why so cheesed off if your own separate brands from the "same holding company" used the same add?

Confused yet?

Posted (edited)

Sure, the holding company is called Organico Engineering Consulting CC. Pyrolights and Extremelights are Brands. Not companies. Same as ledlenser and lethermen. Or same as Two Oceans, Tassenberg, flue de cap, JC le Roux and many more are brands from Distell. Still confused?
