Be sure to buy a 11-28 cassette before you leave ;)

Riding Campy, so will pick one up at first stop in Rome, Italy. Should be a little cheaper. Edited by LOUDMAC

We rented Look 566 Carbon bikes as we were only there for a week and did not want to ship our bikes. They had 50/39/30 front and 12/25 back. A little lower geared than my compact Ultegra, but was actually quite nice for those steep parts.

Running a 53/39 upfront and a 12/25 in the engine. Gonna need a 11/28 back there for the pins to not hate me too much.!

How easy is it to train it to and from these climbs. I ask, as I doubt I'm gonna want to do 80km to the climb and then 80km back?

Yeah, get a 11/28 if you want to conquer as many climbs over 4 months.

Quite a training load.

All I can speak for is Ventoux. Avignon has a train station and TVG station. There are lots of places to stay in Bedoin and other nearby villages. You just have to get there from Avignon (35 minutes by car). I assume by bus. Not sure what the issues are for bikes on the train or buses.

Yeah, but I'll come back a machine.....or I won't make it back! Either way there will be a smile glued to my face!

Yeah, dead or alive :P

You looked pretty strong on the Robertson MTB race - as you passed me up a climb  :whistling: ( I am sure it was you)

Yeah that was me - slowly getting to the point of being gatvol....... and then still having 1hr30 still to ride. Check the D'ville roadies thread for a ride in your area this weekend....

Head to the Dolomites - Passo Giau Marmaloda , Sella Ronda, Passo Duran - some of the best riding you could imagine.

Base yourself in Bormio and you rode Passo Stelvio, Passo Gavia and Mortirolo

Italy is where you should spend a fair bit of time, there are alos hundreds of Granfondo's on at the moment...

Watch out for the yummy food on those liners, Loudmac...

It can reduce your power-weight ratio. :-)

Yeah can kill a BULL!

Been there before, so it's more a return to the life onboard. Got it right on the last 2 contracts to actually lose weight and get fit. Took my bike with, and my job allows for a lot of freedom, except traveling more than an hour or so to get to the ride and back in time. This being said I will focus all my rides in the south area and put the miles in to get to the climbs. After the contract I will stay for a week or two to do the north before coming home for a break and Wine2Whales.
