They're there purely due to peoples' increasing disregard for rules and regs, as well as their total inability to skill up to actually ride the sections. Not only does it detract from the trail that has been built, but it increases erosion as well. If some snotkop sees a section that seems to "technical" (rock garden in Mamba comes to mind) then they will create a divert where one does not exist instead of trying to learn how to do the specific section.
