Had a wipe out over the weekend and helmet took a good punch on my behalf so will be going to the shelf.

I mostly ride sub 40km rides but over the holidays try and do 75km+ rides so need something that will fit my wallet but also give max protection and comfort for long periods.

What helmet would you guys replace it with?

Have a look at the CASCO Range at Xterra Cycles in New Street in Durbanville or in Bowman Cycles in Cape Town CBD, German Quality at affordable prices with a number of MTB Options - More info on CASCO can be found here - www.casco-helme.de or www.cyclespro.co.za

I had a Bell (think Yukon). I have started looking around for replacements as this one has been with me for years. "Luckily" I wiped out and am now pushed into buying a new one asap. The Giro's are looking good so far, What you riding with at present?

Bell Sweep (with a peak fitted for the road and no peak for the dirt. Might be the other way around....... I also have a Fox V2 but that's not applicable here)

If it is less than 3 years old, the replecement warranty should apply no?

Go and have a look at these Bell Helmets . Remember there are duties and vat attached but it may give you a better idea of what is available. Are you looking for a trail, XC or road type helmet? Giro is not a bad option either. I had a choice between a Bell and a Giro (Not sure what model offhand) but ended up getting the Bell because of the removeable peak (made it more versatile), the reviews and the ventillation. Very happy with my purchase so far

Clint? Bored with your galaxy already?

Geez, I'm good but not that good! :) Create an alter ego and then manage 117 posts in double quick time.

My helmet is still in perfect working order....

And as a side note, and let's not derail, but I was right. Android phones are ok but they are not "all that" as they are made out to be. Not bored yet but the thrill has long gone...

OP, keep your eyes on the ASG auctions on here. I picked up the excellent Rudy Project Sterling for R1k (including delivery and a cool free t-shirt). Retail is around R1.5k

I also wiped out and cracked a Bell Ukon. Replaced it with a Giro Xar, very comfortable and well vented. Got mine at Olympic Cycles

Grebel, Mostly for XC and endurance so will ride with peak on 99% of the time.

Thanks for the tip clint, will look out for them.

If I can give you three words of advice for long hot days, ventilation, ventilation, ventilation (Oh and sunscreen. Vent tan on the head isn't a good look if you aren't a professional cyclist...). Unfortunately the less there is of a helmet, the more you will pay for said helmet. Look at the warranty and replacement policy as well. MTB specific would be a good start if that is all you do.

The Slant or the Sequence look quite nice. If you want to look well hard then you could always try the Faction..... I think cptmayhem uses a pink one...
