Stem Diameter

Hi All,

I'm setting up my bike (Giant Anthem Advanced) with wider bars and want to buy a couple of stems to test, the problem I have however is that I don't know the stem diameter (where it clamps onto the forks - Rockshox SID Worldcup), the bars are 31.8 which seems pretty standard.

I hope one of you could give me some guidance here so that I buy the correct stems.

Hey TVI, fork steerers are pretty standard, and even if it is a tapered steerer SID the stem would need to be 1 1/8" in diameter. Generally that is the standard size, but you do get stems that are 1.5" di for the larger, stronger forks (generally 150mm plus)

 

Just don't get a direct mount stem!

 

Edit: the diameter of a normal fork is 1 1/8" all the way through. Tapered steerers start at 1 1/2" and taper down to 1 1/8" but still need a 1 1/8" stem. The SID would be one of these, but the end result is the same. The stem needs to be 1 1/8 di at the mnting point.

 

If your bars are 31.8mm then you need a 31.8mm stem.
