Tip for mounting a Tyre Tubeless esp if the bead won't take...

Just had a horrible tubeless mounting experience , stans everywhere....

Tyre bead just wouldn't set using my trusty 220v car tyre inflator - put 3 x the normal amount of stans , still no joy , then went to 2 different garages , still no joy - stans going everywhere. It seems like it was becuase I had run the tyre tubeless before and the bead was all gluey and non-pliable , I have noticed that happening before , all the gunge hinders the bead from taking.

Finally went to the LBS , one of the mechanics helped me , still no joy - stans going everywhere , another LBS guy noticed us f#*king everything up - he removed the valve (presta) and used the straight airline with no pressure gauge or tyre pump thing - tyre seated immediately.

:)

Makes perfect sense - the guy explained that if you are having trouble mounting the bead remove the valve and do everything else you can to maximise the speed and volume of air flowing into the tyre.

Once the bead is set you can pop the valve back in and pump the tyre back up to the normal pressure you tun it at.

Soapy water made with green dishwashing liquid, liberally applied around the rim on both sides of the wheel should do the job.

Make it nice and bubbly and apply the bubbles.

If you use that technique do you only put the Stans in after the bead has seated with the aid of the soapy water?

Quoting my own post lol

This whole removing the valve to increase airflow is a good technique to remember if you stuck in the bundu's with an unseated bead and are attacking it with your mini hand pump , it may just be the difference you need.... Its the whole seating of the bead thats the difficult bitch!

Stans first. Then "massage" the tyre into place. Soap, and then pump.

I manage with my floor pump.

This could be a dumb question, but don't you have to unseat the bead to fit the valve again?

Was thinking the same thing.

I assume he just removes the inner screw out bit and not the entire valve.

Still. How do you get that bit in without the tire deflating?

Yeah, just inner valve core is removed.

Tyre deflates completely but bead is now seated properly and easy to pump.

This whole soapy water thing is interesting , it would probably be a real life saver to have a tiny bottle of sunlight dishwashing liquid in my saddle bag tool kit - if I have a bead jump all I'll have to do if it just really wont seat is to squeeze some sunlight over the bead , splash some water over the dribbles of liquid soap and good to go!!
