LOL! Anine is spot on - we take it easy and if anyone is slow its me! Our rides we have done are relaxed and fun. And the best part is that toasty and coke halfway! :w00t:

So when are we going

I'm also in the East of Pretoria and would love to join some rides - also a beginner! Usually we just get friends together and go out. Also did Rietvleidam track last Sunday and enjoy it, easy and flat.

Doing the PTA Boys high race on Saturday, and going for a leisurely ride at the new Derdepoort park trail on Sunday.

does the derdepoort trail have some easier, less technical riding too? cause it sounded to me like it was an xco type route?

I know the area, I don't think they can get "too" technical with it. But then again, the Groenies / Fountains guys had a finger in the (mud)pie, so expect a rabbit or two (with bypasses I'm sure)

Only one way to find out, and this month entrance is mahala. I'm gonna take the family and gooi a picnic / braai at the same time (after church)

Went for a recce at Derdepoort yesterday and I got the feeling that on weekends you may want to give it a miss. Rather large area with many braai places catering imho for the non-cyclists from the Mamelodi side of the mountain. The fact that the pool has turnstiles with a sign stating that only 350 people are allowed in the pool area together with a police control room at the entrances makes one wonder about the crowd numbers. Also quite a few broken bottles all over the terrain.

Lots of security guards and the perimeter fence is the concrete pillar type which seems nice and secure. Couldn't find any clear signage in the parking area as to where the trail starts.

Wolf, that place is CRAMMED on public holidays. It's better attended than the ZCC shindig in Moria over Easter :) Starting to think about it, I've had my effing share of glass in the tires over the last month commuting, don't want to get more over te weekend as well. Will go scout in any case.
