I am looking to start road cycling and have found a Raleigh RC 3000 I like. But I am getting a bit confused with the whole sizing thing The Raleigh's do seem to be bigger than other bike's I have looked at.

The bike is a medium and i am aprox 1.8m tall.

Any help will be much appreciated.

For some reason Raleigh used seat tube measurement for their road bikes. Most companies use top tube.

A medium Raleigh is a 51cm seat tube but will be about a 56cm top tube.

so are you saying it should fit Gummibear? as a 56cm is what the other guys are recommending. Edited by dags

I'm 1.75/6 (depending on measurements) and a 56 was just too big for me (Scott), although a 54 was spot on. Riding a medium Raleigh (with a short stem) at the moment and can get right over the bars when getting out of the saddle.

Jip, 51 raleig will be perfect. RC3000 normally comes with a compact crank 50/34. I've got a hollowtech truvativ standard crank I would like to swop out for my gf. Let me know if you are keen. Standard is 53/39.

Just yesterday i was thinking of getting myself a road bike (must just convince the wife first), but I am 1.72. What size would fit me. All my MTB is medium.

Bike sizing will differ from brand to brand and also according to geometry.

Top tube measurements have become most important in referencing size.

The medium Raleigh has a top tube of 56cm which would be a large in mos other brands.

Motard660, @ 1.72 you're probably between sizes S + M. (maybe aven XS in some brands)

Top tube of ±52cm should be about right.

I'm very similar and can generally ride both sizes with small changes to stem and setup.

Depends on alot of things these days. Is it compact geometry or standard.is your torso to leg length proportional. The seat tube might be right for you but then the top tube is too long or short. The head tube might then again be too tall or short and you end up with alot of spacers on your steerer. As others have said here, get a bike fit. Ergofit I found is flexible so you can get a standard Ergofit for less thatn R400 and then take those measurements and do researh on frame geometry best suited to you. It will give you crank length, seat tube, top tube, head tube, reach, etc. i

Ergofit is discussed in Tech QA forum.
