Hi Guys and Gals,

The masters swimming squad is starting at Bellville public swimming pool again! :) The details are below...

One thing to note is that you can come and try it out for free before joining.

Let me know if you have any questions!

:D

Hi Guys

Sorry for the long delay for the details, but today is finally a sunny day worthy of talking about outside swimming.

We will kick off the season's training on Monday 3 October, yip, next week!

We will get together every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 18H00 to 19H30.

We will usually be 2 coaches on deck, depending on the amount of swimmers everyday and the program for the day, the other one might jump in and join.

Celeste will be joining us only from the 3rd week, having a knee op, good luck Celeste, see you on week 3!

The monthly fee for the use of the pool and coaching and everything that goes with it will be R150, it's a bit cheaper than last year, we got the pool at a better rate! At least somethings get cheaper and we want to encourage guys to join us this year as much as possible, we must build on what Tanith started and make her proud!

What you will need.

- You own swimming costume, mine won't fit everyone...

- Goggles, you can swim without them, but it helps a lot when doing long laps!!! I have a contact for goggles if you need some, will put you in contact with the lady, it's the Spurt brand and very affordable, ±R120, depending on design.

- Swim caps are preferred, especially if you have long-ish hair, keeps it nice and tucked away.

- Kick board (Somerset Sport have the best prices that I know of)

- Pull buoy (Somerset Sport have the best prices that I know of)

- Training Flippers (Somerset Sport have the best prices that I know of)

- Towel... don't be a "Neil" and forget your towel... Makes for a wet ride home...

That is basically it!

If you are definitely joining us, pop me a mail with any goals you have for your training or just the general reason for joining, I can then structure the programs up a bit to suite everyone, from the most competitive person in the pool to the most "social" one with your specific goals in mind.

Please note, this is a "Masters" group connected to the Cape Town Masters Swimming Club (hence the cheap pool rate), so we will mostly be adults in the pool. We will have one or two 'minors' in the pool as they have been part of this group for years but for the most part adults only please.

Please feel free to ask questions or to come and join us for a 'test' week to see whether you would enjoy it, but believe me, the most difficult part is just getting in, the rest is easy-peasy.

Now I'm all talked out....

Let's get our swim on!

Regards

Hi mon-goose, I haven't been in the pool yet. The pumps broke and there was apparently only a few inches of water to splash in. We're supposed to be able to go swim tonight. If last year is any indication, the water is farking cold right now! Distances vary between 2000 and 3500m, but you can just swim what you want to and how hard you want to.

Thanks Disylizzy. I've been out of action this last week with flu so getting back into the pool again slowly today. Been very frustrating.

is the water back in the pool yet?

Yup, the water is back in the pool! Just received the confirmation e-mail. I won't make tonight, but I'll definitely be there tomorrow. I'll then post the workout, so you can have an idea of what we do.

Ok, so I swam tonight. The water is freaking freezing! The first 50 was painful, and then after the first 100, everything was too numb to notice the cold. There were 4 of us brave dedicated dumb enough to be swimming. We only swam until 7, and they're going to do that until the water warms up a bit.

The set tonight was as follows:

200 warm up

2 x 100 long strokes, medium paced

drill set:

25 water polo stroke )

25 catch up )

25 long glide strokes) x 2

25 doggy paddle )

IM set hard:

25 fly/free )

25 back ) x 4, rest between each 25, first set 5 breathes, 2nd set 4 breathes, 3rd set 3 breathes, 4th set 5 breathes

25 breast )

25 free )

100 EZ

2 x 200 hypoxic swim, 1st 50 breathe every 5th, 2nd 50 every 7th, 3rd 50 every 5th, 4th 50 every 9th

200 cool down

  • 2 months later...
  • 3 weeks later...
  • 10 months later...
