I had a similar problem on my left foot only. It only started after riding about 50 km on the MTB or after about 5 km running. I ignored it to my own detriment. I will spare you the end result of my diagnosis, but it includes at least three months ZERO CYCLING.

I had read that shoe fit, cleat position, and other issues could cause this and I figured I was clever enough to self-diagnose. I was wrong. If this persists, please have a medical check-up done sooner rather than later.

Good luck in sorting this out!

Hence why I asked if there are other symptoms... A nerve can be pinched/damaged much higher up in your body, hence both feet feeling weird.

You got me thinking, I've been struggling with a stiff shoulders for a few weeks after training. Sometimes I can hardly turn my neck and have a rather sore muscles in the back of the neck. Been on them patches to relief muscle tension for last few weeks. I believe it's a bike set-up issue though. New bike should be ready tomorrow and I'm of to the doc today! Thanks for the help.

I think you're on the money saying it's a setup issue. I would also check the shoes, but two things in particular:

1. the position where the pedal axle lies under the foot (should be under the ball of your foot) if not will cause a type of 'stud pressure' known by soccer players.

2. the shoes may be too tight and disrupt the blood flow into your toes.

I now use the Olympic MTB shoes - they are excellent value for money and have a large toe-box so I can move my toes around during a ride. Their 3 velcro straps also let you adjust the pressure along the arch of your foot.

Good luck,

Cheers

I had quite the opposite experience with Olympics, they are too narrow in front.

Since I switched to different shoes, problem solved.

So I went to see a orthopedist yesterday by which time I had a lame leg. He couldn't work out exactly what I've done either but confirmed I did some soft tissue somewhere/somehow. So onto anti-inflammatory for me but the leg and foot felt pretty normal after the first dosage. I still can't work out what I've done that was so different to the usual and also dont know if it might have been my friday/saturday sessions where I've overdone things and the effects only really started showing 24/48 hours later. Alls well that ends well (I Hope at least) but it's been really strange.

The body is a weird and strange mechanism. I had a pain in the hip that gradually became worse This was going on for tw years. Saw a doctor recently (my MD broke his hand and was not there) She took x-rays and said it was a nerev in my back pinching. I said no, I can feel where it hurts. The end result could have culinated in a back operation. I kept on swallowing painkillers. It eventually became unbearable. At the same time my MD returned back to the practice. He gave it one look and identified it as a small muscle that goes over the hip joint and connected to the hip bone and the top of the femur. He gave me an injection and thre weeks later still no pain. A week and a half ago I suddenly had a pain that felt like a bee stinging just below my left hand shoulder blade. It happened a few times and almost brought me to tears a few times. I went to a physio and after three sessions of extreme manhandling the pain is gone. He reckons it was my upper body compensating for the hip that was hurting that threw everything off balance.

Crazy and complex but I am whole again!!!!!!!
