if that 5.5 headtube is anything like the one on my 6.6... then no! that headset won't work.

34mm internal headtube diameter is rather small. Usually used on older bikes and steel frames.

I think the headtube on your Intense is a 49.7mm (like mine is), if not, it's likely a 44mm. But from the pic, I'm pretty sure that's not a 34mm.

Measure the internal diameter of the headtube and I'll post up some headset options for you.

Another thing looking for headset with has alot of bottom stack,5mm + cup, something like the chris king tall baseplate, but that only works with CK headset.

Anything cheaper with more stack, dont want to spend R1000+ on a headset

The Tall Chris King Stainless Baseplate is an ideal solution for a bike with a fork crown and down tube interference problem. 5mm additional stack height. Fits only Chris King 1-1/8" headsets. 28 g.

http://chrisking.com/files/images/baseplates/stainlessSteel.jpgTo many, this is commonly called a crown race. We choose to call it a baseplate as ours is technically not a race. It is the foundation of the venerable Chris King Sealed Bearing headset and is designed as a low cost, sacrificial piece, easily replaced when worn or damaged upon removal. Occasionally, it’s nice to start with a fresh one - here’s where you’ll find them.

We offer baseplates in stainless steel and titanium in 1" and 1 1/8" sizes.

Baseplates with undersize bores of up to minus .2mm (-.008") are also available to accommodate non-conforming fork steerer tube mounting dimensions. Please contact our friendly customer service team to ensure the correct sizing for non-conforming fork steerer tube mounting dimensions.

For fork crown and downtube interference issues such as those you may find on 29ers and extra-small size mountain bikes we offer a +5mm baseplate in a stainless

My 6.6 runs a 49.7mm internal diameter headtube (known as the "onepointfive" standard).

To make things trickier, My fork runs a 1.5" straight steerer tube. So in SA there was only 1 place to go to get such a rare headset...

...the Hope agents!

They hooked me up with the exact right headset. The cups were external, so that added 5mm to the lower stack, and in total I paid less than the average Cane Creek headset.

So yeah, they're a viable option!

Hey Patch,

What would you recommend for my izimu, the head tube is huge!

I can't remember what I had on my last izimu. I thin it was a 49.7mm.

Also not sure what's on my Makulu... I just know that it's internal.

So best bet again, is to measure.

As for which headset to go for... well seeing as how yours is pre-2011 and doesn't use XPI, and is post 2008, so doesn't have the varied shock front mount positions... an Angle Set might be cool. This will allow you to adjust your headset angle.

Cane Creek make sone, but they cost a small fortune (over R2000). FSA also makes one and it is way more reasonable (as far as I can remember). Again, speak to the Hope agents (they also do FSA).
