In that context an MTB is correct. If I had written Mountain bike it would have been a mountain bike but it is an MTB tandem.

see, now I knew when correcting (wrongly) an MTB, I would have to be completely certain of my facts, which I was not...

I bought MTB tandem 4 months ago - best buy ever!!! I take my 12 year old and it makes him fitter and me stronger as I get good work-out and don't have to wait for him - also time together!!! Me and my 15 year old take it racing - even done multi-stage race on it - really great - kids enjoy it cos everybody talks to them about the tandem at races - so really great tool and versatile!! Also able to convert it to road wheels and fork - so great for 94.7 etc with the kids and me.

Still trying to convince my wife to get on it though - probably not a great idea!! DIVORSE!!!

Sorry to revert back to road tandem. My wife and I had GREAT fun on a tandem. At first it did not go so well. After some chirping I stopped the bike and told her that I would now be the stoker and she could drive. We did not manage to move 2 metres. After that we knew our separate responsibilities.

A 'moment' in my life was when we pulled the A-bunch down a hill in Springs. It reminded me of video material of the Tour de France where the riders are strung out in a long, thin line. When we got to the uphill and they passed us, all we got were 'Thanks' and 'Nice job'. Normally they would just have said: 'Tandem, get out of our group!'

1) You don't want to crash with a tandem - especially if you are from one household.

2) When you need some extra input from the stoker say so - with vision obscured they generally cannot see the uphill you just hit.

3) Sometimes you do not want the stoker to 'push' - say so by using a short command like: 'Easy!'

It is fun on a tandem and I always felt so strong when I got back on a single bike.
