Hi all

I picked up a injury in May 2012. Hamstring tendon was very irritated and a slight avulsion..Went on for a month before I went to doc. Booked me off for 4 weeks and anti-inflammitory meds for a month, and 2 shots of cortisone in the problem area... My nerve though(peroneul Nerve I think its called) still hurts. Can't even do a leg curl in the gym. Any advise? Or have anyone else had the same injury?

Get a good physiotherapist.

The road to recovery and stronger performance lies in a good rehab process.

I've had my hamstring challenges as a long distance runner.

Give the gym a rest for awhile. Does it hurt on the bike? Cyclists dont use hamstrings much on bike , its a common running injury though.

I have had a similar problem, but I suspect mine has more to do with where the calf muscle inserts into the lower hamstring. Hamstring and calf stretching with straight leg and calf raises with straight leg has brought some welcome relief.

Avulsion implies that the muscle was pulled of with a piece of bone - maybe you mean small tear? Was this diagnosed with sonar or MRI? If you have sciatica (sciatic nerve irritation) then you will have sensory changes down your leg (or sometimes weakness). Most likely u have scar tissue that cannot stretch and contract with the surrounding normal tissue. Get an precise diagnosis - it may now be different to your original. ABSOLUTELY NO LEG CURLS until you are fully rehabilitated. Lots of ice. Running uphill is dodgy. Rather spin. Try sitting more upright - will use less hamstrings. Be patient it will take months to recover. Good Luck

I agree with cobuswes on this one. Check out the sciatic nerve.. Your problem might be in the back, causing stress on the nerve and resulting in leg pain. I've just had similar issue for past 6 months and going for surgery next week to fix the disc in lower back pressing the nerve. Hopefully surgery not required in your case but rather make 100% sure with MRI scan. Good luck
