Lack of cadence?

I pedaled out one of the descents in the 94.7 at just over 80 in a 53-11. But all you need to do is tuck yourself in and little pedaling is necessary.

Thinking back now I had a 12-23 gear cluster at that time.

The corners at Suikerbossie are quite treacherous. I used to be able to manage close to 200rpm though. Got to 90km/h on a flat behind a truck once*.

*young and stupid.

I maxed out my cadence on a 53-11 on a downhill behind a van once at 110*. Won't try it again. *Young and stupid too oops.gif

On my road bike have 172.5mm crank with 39/53 rings and 12-25 cassette - find on the hills like Suikerbosrand I drop to 40-50 rpm cadence, this is slow and painful.

SRAM have another RD for road bikes that about medium cage mtb that allows bigger cassettes (Conti was using that on at the Vuelta) 12-30 or 32 would make me happier.

It's also interesting to note that in the race we had in Lesotho some years back, our pro's also rode with a 27/29 cluster.... sometimes hills are really nasty buggers.
