Tom Boonen's rivals would be forgiven for having little confidence in their ability to claim a share of the victories at the Tour of Qatar which kicks off this Sunday.
But the Belgian's formidable record in Qatar, which include four stage wins last year, is not going to stop them trying.
Boonen, the former world champion, has notched up a total of 11
stage wins over the years in the Emirate making him the man to beat over six days of "nervous" racing.
With some of Europe's top teams eager to try out new gear, new additions to their respective teams - while aiming for sprint victories over the mainly flat and wind-lashed roads of Qatar - there will be plenty of scope for action.
So much so that one of Boonen's lieutenants at Quick Step, sprint lead-out man Gert Steegmans, has decided against racing in Qatar this year.

and i don't know if anyone is following this:

THE same ferocious intent driving Allan Davis to restore his career yesterday propelled the Australian cyclist to his third Tour Down Under stage win.

Davis, of the Australia-UniSA team, won the 139km third stage from the Adelaide suburb of Unley to the south coast town of Victor Harbor and improved to second overall.

The only man to have competed in all 10 Tours Down Under is two seconds behind compatriot Mark Renshaw (Credit Agricole) in the overall standings.

Renshaw reclaimed the ochre jersey as race leader after finishing second yesterday.

CYCLING: HUSHOVD UPBEAT AS AGRICOLE RUN OUT OF CREDIT
Trailing a blaze of glory, and hoping to find a new sponsor on the way, are the aims of one of France's longest-running cycling teams as they head into the new season knowing it could be their last.
After nearly 10 years French banking group Credit Agricole will end its backing of the green-and-white clad outfit, which among others has helped finetune the talents of Australian Stuart O'Grady and Norwegian sprinter Thor Hushovd - as well as making the company a household name.
