Since I quit smoking (almost 4months now) I need to keep myself busy. I decided to resurrect my first MTB. The 16kg Mongoose Tyax Elite, like the one in the pic.

(I know not the best bike but I was so chuffed with the “disc brakes” is just had to have it blush.png)

I stripped all the unnecessary parts and I’m going to fit an old shimano deore (M552) crank (middle ring is an ideal 32t) with a DMR conversion kit http://dialdbikes.co...ersion-kit.html

Still contemplating respray/colour.

I do however have a few questions for the experts out there.

1. What size (length) chainring bolts to use? The std ones are about 2mm too long

2. Is the DMR kit any good? Any alternatives?

Thx in advance

Will post pics as I progress

1 - use a grinder to shorten the hollow side of the bolts by a couple of mm - works fine.

2 - DMR kit is ok, but better to use a wide base sprocket, and there are much better (but more expensive) tensioners out there - the DMR one tensioner is a bit tricky to setup, but when its done its ok.
