I've got a Powertap 2.4 SL hub that seems to have died. I thought it was the battery that was flat, but trying 2 different sets of new batteries hasn't resulted in my Garmin picking up the hub any more.

Before I send it off to Jhb to get looked at, is their anyone in the Milnerton/Table View area that has a working Powertap 2.4 that I can try test with? I want to see if its a battery issue or not.

Any other suggestions welcome.

If it is one of the older PowerTap hubs, the magnet on the axle may have come loose. The earlier ones were glued on and later they were glued and taped.

Have someone remove the axle and look for the magnet. It is a round, button magnet attached to the aluminium axle or axle sleeve - can't remember exactly where. Also, if someone recently opened it, the magnet may be in the wrong position, i.e. the sleeve was turned round.

Nope. And I haven't had the time to send it back up to Jhb either, so its just hanging in my garage unused at the moment.

Its definitely not the batteries, I have about ten of them now that can attest to that.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to send it off to get fixed.

No worries.

I can attest to that too, that its not the batteries.

If its not under warranty & you are not keen on sending it to Jhb try the guys at BMC in Woodstock, they once did a service on my hub & it run smoothly & issue free for a long time.

Yes I did. Everytime you start a new ride it asks do you want to calibrate.

Your Powertap is definitely farked. I will come and collect it from you at no cost and dispose of it in an environmentally safe manner.

Jokes aside; have you tested your garmin/Ptap with other units?
