Guest Heino Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Hi; I want to invest in a nice bright front light for me and the wife. I have seen a few, but have questions, how bright is 200 lumens? Theres is two factors I considdered, one is visibility which is most important and secondly I would like to also see where I go if i happen to ride in the dark. Reason I ask about the 200 Lumen one is that there seems to be a hell of a lot of these in the range, so obviuosly it means something.
Cycle Fan Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 200 lumens won't help much with seeing - fine for being seen though. You'll need at least 500 lumens to see where you are going.
DaLoCo Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I have a LED Lenzer M7 torch with bike mount, about R500. It is 225 lumens, and I have no issue when riding on the road without street lights. It is plenty powerful as you can focus the beam. The directionality might not make it a good option for mountain biking.
