Hi all.

the front derailleur that have at the moment seems to be to short on the cage length. when on the small front chain ring the chain rubs the link which supports the side walls, only when i change to the largest 3 cogs on the rear does it clear the derailleur.

it looks like i should have a longer cage or arm on the derailleur to allow for the use of the smaller rear cogs.

can this be extended or is there a range of shimano that covers this.

you sure your derailer isn't clamped too high on the frame?

when on the largest chain ring there should only be a tiny bit of clearance between the chain an top of the derailer?

The swing arm is in the way so i am unable to lower the derailleur any more than what it is. it is a bottom swing derailleur so the only alternative then is to get an E-type derailleur then and hope for the best.

That is the one that i have. it is the spring just below the bolt on the left hand side that catches on the swing arm not alowing it to be mounted any lower.

i am now also thinking that the E-type will have the same problem with the spring.

the previous derailleur used was the Sram x-7 by the old owner, FWIW

maybe go have it checked out by your LBS, should take a good mechanic a whole of 5 seconds to look and let you know if its the derailer or if its just been installed incorrectly
