Hi Guys

So I've tried to find out about this, but can't seem to find a definitive answer.

I've got a 2011 Specialized Epic Comp 29er which has a "Custom SRAM S-1250, 7050 alloy arms, 10-speed triple, GXP spindle, S: 170mm" crankset and a SRAM GXP, outboard bearing bottom bracket.

I'm looking at buying a "Sram S2210 BB30 Crank. 2X10 (38/24)" to replace the current crankset, can any confirmed what the compatibility of this is i.t.o. of the bottom bracket?

Please can somebody help me, or at least point me in the right direction to finding an answer, I'm a bit of a noob with regard to this!

Cheers

Nick

I don't know if you can put a BB30 crankset into a bike that's made for GXP. The other way around you can do, ja. Myabe look at http://wheelsmfg.com/. They do all kinds of converters. If they don't have something for that, it can't be done.

The info that is needed to do this conversion is missing form you post.

The main concern here is the size of your BB - on the bike - not the bearing that fits into it.

BB30 means that the thickness of the shaft running from one side to the other is 30mm also known as OD - outer diameter.

A GXP crankset has a 24mm shaft on the drive side and then a step down to a 22mm on the Non drive side. This keep the crank from sliding side to side.

If you have a `SRAM GXP, outboard bearing bottom bracket` which would leave me to believe that the bottom racket on the bike is threaded and in that case - NO - to my knowledge there is no adapter.

New bikes have non threaded BB that are bigger - BB30 has OD of 40mm and PF30 has OD 46mm - these allow for the bigger bearings to fit into the bike frame. In new frames with BB30 and PF30 bottom brackets you can fit spacers but unfortunately not the other way around - as far as I know. BB30 and PF30 are also narrower than GXP - by about 40mm if I remember correctly - so even if you could get the bearings to a bigger size to accept the bigger shaft - stop the jokes, I know what that sounded like - the BB30 crankset would still be to narrow and not fit.

Hope that helps.

Is your frame the aluminum frame? If it is, not sure what to do and maybe you can get adapters. If it is the carbon frame you can get inserts that go in to the BB shell that changes the type of BB you are running. I got mine from the concept store in Melrose.

I agree though with the post - stay with outboard bearings and your problems will be less. BB 30 is non standard so you get a whole lot of different variables and spacing etc. not worth the hassles.

Tks for all the replies.

Seems like it won't fit, which was kind of what I thought.

Which is a good crankset to look at getting?

I know the XT crankset is pretty nice, what BB would I need to make that work?

Running the Alu frame.

GXP does not mean it is threaded. You get press fit GXP BB's as well. Look here:

http://www.sram.com/truvativ/component/bottom-brackets

A crank with GXP spindle (24mm diameter with the step to 22mm) will fit in a threaded GXP or press fit GXP bottom bracket.

From the SRAM website, on GXP pressfit BB:

A variant of the external bottom bracket, PressFit cut weight by up to 40 grams and provide easier installation by allowing you to press the bearing cups into the frame instead of threading them. There's no change to the crank — spindle length and diameter remain the same.

Uhmm no you actually get a GXP to BB30 Bottom Bracket convertor - Bearings in BB30 cups outside that screws into Bottom Bracket.

made by ROTOR

Tks a lot guys, really appreciate all the insight. Clearly still have a heck of lot to learn about this stuff.

The convertor looks interesting, will definitely look into that. Cheers

Sorry I'm resurrecting an old topic here! But if I understood you guys correctly, I could buy an XT crankset with BB and it would fit my frame fine? no conversions or anything needed?

Finally about to replace the crankset
