I need some advice on options to upgrade my Raleigh Nomad 10 to a DS bike.

Current specs on Nomad:

XT derailleurs, crank, cluster, disk brakes

SLX shifters,

Mavic Crossride wheelset (tubeless conversion)

Rock Shox Reba RL fork.

Raleigh (RGP) seat and post, FSA bar and stem, etc

  • I assume with the correct frame I can re-use all spares on a new DS frame?
  • Which of these parts can be re-used on a 29er build?
  • If I don’t re-use some of these parts, should I break up the nomad and sell separately, if not, what is a reasonable asking price for the bike as is (frame has some normal scratches and chips)

Any advice?

If you stick to 26", the only potential issues are front derailleur, seatpost and steerer size. 29" you'll need a new fork and wheelset. The rest you can carry over. Depending on fit you may need a new stem too.

As far as selling goes, you'll probably get more if you split the components, but it'll be more of a mission to sell them all. Asking price for the full bike - try current retail less 30 or 40 percent, depending on how old the bike is. 26ers are tough to move at the moment though, market perceptions and all...

What frames are you looking at?

Thanks for the advice!

Planned on shopping on the Hub for a frame, fork and wheelset if I build, or perhaps venture into something Carbon from the east. Then again, if I can re-use components it's only the Reba and the Cross ride wheels I should sell. The rest I will re-use for now and upgrade as funds become available again.

If I sell complete, would likely buy complete, then the Scott spark 940 looks like a nice option, but I will be downgrading on groupset. or Giant Anthem X1

Not sure what frame size you are looking for but....

I have a dual/sus Giant Antem X 29er (small - 15.5") - 2011 model. I've ordered a new carbon frame and parts which will arrive within the next 2 weeks. I will do my last race with the Giant on 21st Jul (Duathlon). After then I will strip the bike (to move my XT groupset to the new frame). Basically what I will have left after the move is the following components:

Frame: Small 15.5" Blue/White ALUXX SL FluidFormed™ alloy Maestro 4.0” travel, including Shimano BB71, press fit, Plus Shock

Wheelset & Tryes: Giant P-XC2 Performance 29er, eyeleted, double wall, alloy, 32H

Fr: Giant Tracker 15QR | Rr: DT Swiss 350 10sp disc**

DT Swiss Competition 14/15G butted stainless w/alloy nipples

Fr Tyre: Continental Mountain King 29x2.4

Rr Tyre: Continental Race King 29x2.2"

Breaks & Rotors:

"SRAM Avid Elixir CR hydraulic w/6” breaks

SRAM Avid Elixir rotors (clean sweep x) 160mm & 180mm + breakmount"

Front Derailleur: Shimano Deore XT 10 sp. 34.9

Handlebar: Giant Contact oversize alloy 690mm 29’er flat bar

Stem: Giant Contact oversize alloy, 4 bolt, 8 degree

Seatpost: Giant Contact oversize alloy micro-adjust 30.9

Saddle: Fi’zi:k Tundra w/Manganese rail

The bike has done less than 1600km (I race once a month on a weekend) - train on a spinner. The frame has a paint chip here and there - it's not new, but in very good condition.

If you want to build a bike you would basically need a tapered 29er FORK, crankset, chain, RD, casette, shifters. That's what I'm moving over (the XT parts of the bike and the fork & shock). The new frame does come with a shock (X-Fusion O2 RCX); I can move this brand new shock for you onto the Giant frame.

Cheers
