I say go for it.they are relatively cheap (comparing to the other s$%t triathlete's buy!). There's no conclusive scientific evidence for or against it, so with your "unique" problems it might just help. I've had many mates claim they work for shin and calf problems (however I think it might be attributed to the new and better shoes they bought). The bulk of triathletes wear them just because everyone wears them, so you'll fit right in.

 

The flipside might be to spend the money on a podiatrist. Not for inserts, but to get the best shoes for you.
