Riding to Katze dam

So we are going to Ficksburg for the weekend, and plan on driving in to Lesotho on Saturday. This got me thinking... Has anyone ever cycled to Katze dam from Fickburg?

 

Apart from the Lesotho Sky, what is riding in lesotho like? Are the roads safe and quiet?

 

I did a quick search, but couldn't find anything.

Geez. I did it on my R1200GS and that was hard. Friend of mine was in the area 2 weeks ago on his BMW. Roads are fine in places, and then rock falls in others, huge rocks bigger than cars. We also went in from that side. Bicycle will be fun but damn hard!!! The day we were there we stopped for Padkos and the temp was 24 degrees, 10km further we climbed more than 1500m and temp dropped to 3 degrees

I cycled from Katse back to Afriski in 2006 and it was moer hard. Had to push our bike for around 20k's on 4x4 trails that I wouldn't have taken a Land Rover on.

Pitseng pass rivals many european alps passes... Beautiful, awesome, but brutal. Also going to be covered in snow and freezing cold this weekend...

 

We had long weekend in March: PMB - Afriski via Sani Pass

Afriski - Lejone (this leg is ridable)

Lejone - PMB via Fiksburg

All of this makes me really want to do it!

 

I don't see how I will get taking my bike along past the government (I am still working on that) but maybe I should consider this in future.

 

I am guessing a MTB would be the weapon of choice, since not all of the roads are tarred/in decent condition?
