I can get a Giant-anthem-x-4-29er for about R18 000 or a Merida-big-ninety-nine-1000 for about R22 000.

If it was me I would go the Trance X route as it is a less racy geometry, a bit more relaxed.

Good point that, some frames geometry allow you to be more upright and that is also linked to the frame size, too small and you'll be bent over more.

 

Decide if you want a racers form bent over the bars or a more upright comfortable back friendly cruiser form. You can still step on the gas in cruiser mode just better view and less back pain from being hunched over the bars with the associated neck pain from craning your neck looking up.
