Yes, really looking forward to this event.

Loved last years event, bombed out with gastro, so no final day ( missed the woeste wet  ).

Love the Karoo

Great food. ( More so around the race than on the race, see jhb2C for tips)

Love the hospitality.

Most of the days should be fine on SS, but day 2, you Start the Swartberg pass after almost 2000m of climbing and then no space to recover, but, all things being relative, you may be fine. I have done Attakwas SS, and still wouldn't do day 2 SS. I think it has been done, so, can be done. Day 3 has a very long flat initial section would also be a drag on SS.

Either way, I am doing it solo, so, may see you there.

hehe... I know that route quite well actually. Went up the swartberg pass a lot faster than my geared buddies this year during the Freedom Challenge.

Its a climb but I reckon without a pack and food etc I should be ok.

Attakwas is fun on a SS, what are you talking about?!

Is there a Solo Single Speed division?

I have WCAD X 2 weeks before but this race has been on my list of things to do for a while!

hmmmm......

Please take note: Should there be 5 solo entries or more of people wanting to participate with single speeds, a separate category and results will then be made available.(unfortunately no prize money or cat leaders jersey's will be available)

Same applies to tandems - we already have 1 entry as well.

Ooooh! Is that 1 tandem entry or SS entry?

I will speak to some other SS peeps and see what can be done here....... Great initiative. Do you guys advertise that on your info website/race rules?

We'll take the matter up with the event organizers and maybe have a dedicated single speed category available for the 2014 race. But no promises as yet... SS is fun no doubt - but as long as you are on a bike according to us it's already fun... "Might" be a bit more challenging on the hills though...

1 Tandem thus far... So let's see if we can't push the demand for SS - Then we'll most likely have dedicated category for 2014's event. Yet again - No promises, 2014 is still a long way to go...

But no doubt that we'll try our best to accommodate the SS and tandem participants as best we can.

Unfortunately this is not something that's mentioned on our website, But we'll look into that as soon as possible. So keep an eye on the Bridge Cape Pioneer Trek's website:

This is such a good incentive for us to get together as a SS community and say yes.

I will put out some feelers and maybe with the right spin we may yet convince some of the geared pansies to shed their derailleurs and join us in the straight chain brigade.

(gauntlet officially thrown........ subtly of course)

Lol - You mean "straight chain Bridge-ade".... And let's see how fast we can get 5 Single Speed entries for this years cape pioneer trek - Think the SS category will be a welcomed and a "must see on the hills" sight for the participants and spectators alike... Thanks for sparking the initiative  - Now let's see if we can get those 5 SS and 5 Tandem entries... Edited by Bridge SA

I think Anton & Brigitte deserve some sort of prize as the only tandem entry. They come back every year to ride the Pioneer and I really admire their commitment and spirit.

They even finished the Cape Epic this year, coming stone last, but never giving up.

These are the kind of riders that shape an event.

No Doubt about it - Their dedication and hard work is something any tandem team should aspire to...

And yes - Tandem on a MTB route as challenging and even technical at some times as with the Bridge Cape Pioneer Trek takes some serious will power and a never-say-die attitude...

One thing is for certain - We can't wait to see them in action again...
