Yes it's a fast shutter speed. If I shoot at the settings some photographers in these online light shoot-out's use the lights will really appear like daylight LOL...

This one LED ligh is good for 40 to 50km/h on gravel roads you know, but it's nothing like the 4 LED version I'm testing now... hmmm

I will take pics of the mounts and little light tomorrow.

JG

PS: a beamshot of the 4 LED with helmet at 40m (840 to 900 lumens) Notice the great depth and side spill... really lights up the area...

Thanks BL, but your light deserve a thread of their own.

This is the DIY thread. Smile

Please post more info on your lights and your latest projects so that we can discuss later (I am off to bed now).

I have a fairly smart charger that allows me to cycle batteries and record charge / discharge peaks etc.

Which charger have you got and where did you buy it?

I have a Robbe Infinity II that has had a software upgrade to take Lipo Li-ion cells. However if I was to buy a charger now and didn't care what it cost I'd buy a Schulze Chameleon, http://www.schulze-elektronik-gmbh.de/index_uk.htm

There is an importer in PE, let PM me if you want his details. If you would prefer to spend a lot less, my wife might still have stock of a usefull little charger for about R 600.00 (I think). It can also charge / discharge up to 10 cells. I think max discharge is only 500mah. It can cycle cells, but only records the last action.

I
a single Cree Q5 puts out 214 to 228 lumens at 1000mA... eeesh...

Where does one buy a Cree Q5?

I want to know that too. Been looking for a while.

I have only found one UK site selling Q4s.

Cree LEDs do not seem to be easily obtainable in small quantities.

1W Luxeons I could order online from a local SA supplier, so they will have to do for now.

Saw WH this morning with his very impressive lights!!!

Think I must come and get lessons to build my own ones for those winter rides.

I'm also busy putting my order together to build a light. Have anyone looked at the normal 1w LEDs they have at rabtron? It seems to give the same amount of light per LED but at 350mA.

If this is correct it will mean a lot less heat is produced and that you can get much more battery life. they're also half the price of the luxeons. I contacted the guy from rabtron and he said the LEDs are %100 compatible with the lenses you guys used. If it works i'll be able to run 3 80lm LEDs at full capacity with about 5v input power and 1000mA.

Another thing i'm going to try is to get someone to machine me a aluminium housing for the light.

The guy from rabtron said the new K2 LEDs will arrive in some time, rated at about 200lm at 1000mA. Bet that would work nice if you put three of them together!!!

have any one looked on www.extremeshop.co.za?

they seem to have some cree LED's, i'm still trying to figure out what lenses i can use with what LEDs. The nice thing about the luxeons is they pretty sorted out in terms of what lenses you can use ect. especially if you contact rabtron, they seem to know what they're doing.

tell me if anybody can figure out the cree systems!!!

have you guys tried out the P7 LED's at all?

I got myself one the other day. One LED outputting 700 Lumens at 130Deg. Its flipping bright. I'm just trying to find a good lens before i start out on my project.

The <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />USAon> site is the same light, just with some more specs than the SA site.

This looks a lot easier, it?s the cree q5 with 5 mode settings. All you need to do is get a casing and batterypack. Is this the stuff you use in your lights Brighter-Lights?
