Clicking sound on crank

Velo Racer

HI All

I need some help. I have a clicking sound when I pedal hard on my left crank. When I spin normally the sound is not there. Only when I pedal hard.

Anybody have an idea what it could be?

I had the same sound when I pedal hard but the sound was actually coming from my bb,my lbs told me that its from grit and water getting in the bb and when I pedal hard I experience the same thing , solution took my crank and bb off clean and greased it up and was good to go sound gone

I am getting the same thing on my spinning bike. Do you think it is BB or equiv....I am guessing it has one, have not pulled it apart......

Other option is your left pedal's bearings are shot, depending on the make and model you may be able to service them and replace the bearings.

aha. thanks guys. I think I'll take it off this afternoon and clean it. Hopefully it just needs a clean/grease and not a whole new bearing.

What cranks and BB do you have?

Some initial guesses to a solution:

  • remove pedals and grease threads and re-assemble
  • remove BB, grease threads and reassemble

Will try the bearings, if I can work how to get them off.

The sound is definitely not coming from the pedal. Sound is coming from the BB. Anybody have an idea of what a new BB would cost?

250 and up to obscene amounts.

What type is it?

External/Square taper/splined etc.

That will determine cost as well...

New?

If so, it will be hollowtech II

If a good few years old, hollowtech I

Either will set you back around R250 or so for the lower range ones.

Either way, you will need specialised tools to extract the cranks.
