The first WTB frequency Team rims (i19 and i23) were made of 7000 series alloy. After about 18 months these rims started to crack around the nipple holes.. WTB claimed that the wheel builders were using too much tension. (As far as I remember the max tension spec was 130kgf. High indeed, but those were the specs given by WTB)

I see the last batch I got was manufactured of an 'all new' 69 series aluminium. (Stans (ZTR) also use 6000 alloy for their rims.

The 7000 alloys are more expensive, but claimed to be stronger for the same weight than the 6000 alloys. Some say that a good 7000 alloy with T7 heat treatment is as tough as Fe...
