I'm no expert but I think it also depends how well/often you clean/replace the chain.  It will differ from rider to rider, but I suppose there has to be a "more or less"

That's like asking what is the standard lifespan of a specimen of homo sapiens. It depends.

 

For chainrings, it depends on

 

1) Ring size (larger lives longer)

2) Rider's habits (cross-chaining kills rings)

3) Hygiene

You seem to be right in the first instance but off the mark on the latter. By doing what you're doing you are only fooling yourself and enriching the bike shop. There is no need to replace chainrings unless they cause chainsuck or the chain doesn't engage at all. A worn chainring does not damage a chain.

 

You then go on to say you only do a few thousand kilometers per annum yet you still replace the chainrings every year. What for?

The problem i have is, when i do not change it and cont another half year. Then my new chain gives my hassles for weeks and jumps gears all the time.....

I've done 11000km on my current front chain rings since last year, they haven't been giving me any grief (yet), and dont look shark finned yet that I have to replace them.  On my second chain, will be third chain and second cassette cluster from next week or so.
