I dont mind Levi riding, but on the other hand, why didn't Astana change the team name to smooth over the fiasco they caused last year. I can also understand the organizer's point of view: "Astana stuffed up our race last year, we're getting even this year".

 

What irritates me the most obout the whole situation, is that there are no clear cut rules about who can ride and who not. A clear set of rules are needed, urgently! Millar got busted, but is riding again. Hamilton got busted, but is barred from the ToC starting list. Basso & Ulrich get busted over Puerto, Contador & Valverde is still riding. Riis & Zabel has to hand back their jerseys, Frankie Andreu gets crucified for his confession, while Virenque is sitting pretty as a TV commentator on a pile of 8 polka dot suits.

 

The solution is simple: Store all samples, with a retroactive testing window of 10 years, to allow time for the tests to catch up to the dopers.

 

Busted=life ban. 3 busts on a team=disbanding of the team.

Confession=reduced punishment, with a hefty fine for the rider, and the team.

Reminds me a bit of the "I BELIEVE TYLOR" button that was circulated by the late Phonac team just before he was dumped.

 

Levi is a big boy now, he knew full well the Astana team had a dubious past.

Did he honestly think that just because JB was now involved the world would just roll over and capitulate.

 

Personally I not a Levi fan and this smacks of a typical YANK opportunistic endevour to try and force THEIR opinion on the rest of the world.

well I believe the 3 rock racing rider's were barred from starting at the 11th hour cos of the peuto case being re-opened and their names all being linked to it.

 

millar got bust did his time and now is a choir boy.

 

contador and valverde have mafia connections - they're 'untouchable'

It is a pity that Leiphiemer does not get to ride. He will most likely find a ride with another team though.

 

But you are right Christie, its a very different set of rules for each of them it seems. Should not be the case.

 

I agree that Contador should not ride due to the Puerto case, but ASTANA as a team sponsor should not be penalised. But maybe this is their way of clamping down?!

 

Lets see what happens...
