Multiple national masters’ champion LeDuc given two year ban for using cocktail of banned substances

http://news.velonation.com/Misc/Featured/original/USADA_logo12F.jpgTesting positive for three separate banned products at the US masters’ road national championships on September 6th, the 62 year old amateur David LeDuc has been handed a two year suspension by the US Anti Doping Agency.

 

LeDuc comes from Willow Springs, North Carolina. He won multiple national masters’ championships in the past, and was also world masters’ champion in 2001. He was tested in an in-competition test carried out at the 2013 nationals.

 

The analysis of that revealed traces of an exogenous steroid, EPO plus the prohibited stimulant amphetamine.

 

“Anabolic Androgenic Steroids, rhEPO, and amphetamines are all prohibited under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing and the UCI Anti-Doping Rules, both of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code (“Code”) and the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List,” said the agency in a statement.

 

USADA added that LeDuc has accepted the 24 month ban, which began on December 24th of this year. All cycling results from September 6th have also been voided, and medals, points and prizes from that period have been declared forfeit.

 

The news has led to a strong reaction on social media. LeDuc’s age and amateur status differ from the profile of many cycling positives, although in recent seasons several other masters riders have also tested positive and been banned for doping.
