Karin, contact the guys at concept cyclery (031 7621416). There is a cross country track off Inanda rd between Hillcrest and Waterfall. They often organise a Wednesday afternoon ride there, around 4pm.

park at the dirt road near hillcrest entrance to giba and ride in and out from there. Most mtb riders meet at Oscars in hillcrest and do some shongweni/summerveld routes and drop in the back of giba, ride the giba trails and ride back out to hillcrest to get a 50km ride

There are always people riding from Oscars and u don't have to drive to giba. Ive been a member of GIba for many many years and I cannot remember when last I have driven to GIBA. I ride from foresthills via waterfall/ hillcrest to giba and surrounds(shongweni/summerveld) and the ride back out of GIBA is a great workout. On a sat and sunday morning you will struggle to get parking at Oscars for all the mtb riders. The waterfall xc track has also just recently been cleaned by Concept store waterfall and is very nice and safe riding as well. (100% single track with approx. 125m of climbing per lap and approx. 4.5km in distance and free)They also do rides every Saturday morning from the shop to giba, give them a call

Hi S. Drove past Giba entrance today (was too late to go and ride) and then eventually found Oscar's. GPS however took me on many twists and turns and through areas where I will not want to cycle. Do you perhaps have a kml file/strave or garmin connect route that I can follow from Oscar's? Will really appreciate it. Otherwise I will just have to take the car there on Wednesday and hopefully be in time for the night ride(s). Thanks a mill.

if you follow duane stander or Jacques fouche on strava you will find the route into to giba. Is it only in the evenings when you are able to ride even on weekends. Have you had a chat with Giba Gorge they are very accommodating and supportive in getting everyone to ride. If you want to chat send me a pm and I will give you a call.

I am only able to ride in the afternoons, after 4ish. I have contacted Giba and am going to join the night ride there this Wednesday. Thanks for all the advice, appreciate it.

Giba will be good to ride now especially after this bit of rain. Not so great when it is dusty and dry.Check out the Enduro track it is pretty cool.

so how was the ride

Hi S. Went there on Wednesday afternoon, it was really great! I only managed to do one loop (the 17km) but was so worth it. Will most certainly be back as soon as I can. Thanks again for all the advice.

Did you get around to Karkloof? Did the 30 again yesterday and it is absolutely epic! Hair raising on some of the rock gardens and Carnival if you have never done it before.... but there is definitely a reason why that trail is rated so highly..... really is amazing.

I did the Karkloof 30km loop on two occasions in October. On the Sunday afternoon there was a slight drizzle when I started, which turned to a downpour of note! The single track become a river. I was the only one out on the trail and nobody at the country club when I got back. Still had a great time. The Monday morning I went for another 30km loop and what a wonderful ride. It was a sunny morning and after the rain the previous day it was spectacular! Will most certainly go back when I have another chance, but unfortunately this trip was too short and work got in the way..............
