Western Cape has worst cyclists by far

On my ride this morning, and every other day, most of the cyclists I passed greeted. I never greeted back, but that's besides the point. Maybe I'm just biased and subconsciously ignore anyone too hard in their intervals to greet. Another polarised thread on the hub. Egad!

Larry Montana has a great point, mostly roadies!!! And I'm a roadie so I'm not discriminating. One Capetonian decribed the roadies as weekend warriors with Tour de France kit and a *** attitude

Sjoe, for a minute there I felt like saying "nou praat jy k@k", but then you mentioned "mostly roadies." I'm fine with that. Keep well!

Its a road cycling thing... you should rather come and mountain bike, we are all friendly :)

Everywhere, even at races, mountain bikers are way more friendly than roadies. I have been a roadie and now I do mountain biking.

BS. Up north I (as a roadie) am more likely to be greeted back by a roadie on the road than by a "mountainbiker" with fat wheels riding the black top.

Sure, but "up North" they're all really just roadies, there's no Mountains for it to be called mountain biking..

You obviously missed me! Was asked at a recent group ride - heck, do you know the whole town?! Nope, I just greet and acknowledge. I'm (mostly) happy when I'm on my bike.

I have been out walking in the Bellville area a couple of months back and all the mountain bikers that passed me, waved and said hallo.

After a long holiday in Cape Town and its surroundings, I can only say that I'm very ashamed to be called a cyclist when riding there! I have always been friendly to those that share my passion for sport, whether it be swimming, walking your dog, cycling or running. I am also one that greets my fellow cyclists and runners as this is not only friendly, but also creates a great atmosphere under each other. All I can say is that I'm shocked! Cape town has these great cycling friendly roads like no other city in SA and every cyclist I greeted gave me a bad look and just went on further. This not only happened once or twice, but more than 50 times during my 4 week stay in the Cape. I asked a fellow hubber Dealer01 when I collected my cassette from him and he says this has been going on for quite a while. How can one blame road rage against cyclists if they ride two or even 3 abreast, can't greet back or say thanks to vehicles that go out of their way to ride around these riders that ride next to each other? They have absolutely no respect for other cyclists or cars on the road for that matter. I am truely ashamed

You are spot on with the attitude of cyclists and this is ever since the muppets from JHB, Potch, Bloem etc decided to come and live here or come down during December Holiday and ride their bicycles.

Once those "okes" leave it returns back to being a cycling friendly city where people wave and joyous.

So, all you "real mountain bikers" ride long travel dual suspension bicycles with dropper posts wearing baggies hey?

Easy to boost your own ego by breaking down others.. anyway, let me get out of here ... there are "real" mountain bikers with real insecurities on this thread.

as in: "real mountain bikers"

do not wear lycra

do wear baggies

do not shave legs

do greet (each) other(s)

do not ride on the road (they push their bikes when they cross a road)

do this, do that

don't do this, don't do that

et cetera ad nauseum .....

I stand by my statement. Actually I (as a roadie) am more likely to be greeted by a runner than by a "mountain biker"

PS: Why the constant need and desire by mountain bikers to force people into pigeon holes? All it does is to point towards insecurity - inability to deal with diversity! Sadly, mountainbiking has become a bit of a clique thing... you know the new golf! ;)

Anyways, just ride you bicycle(s) and be a decent human being to others - irrespective of mode of training / transport!

You sure they weren't trying to pick you up? Did you not notice the lewd grins?

LOL, if they were trying to pick me up, they did a really bad job. They will never succeed in waving, saying hallo and speeding away.
