There certainly will Bodhi

Well, in that case, maybe I should do the ultra. My medal hanger is looking a little bare of ultra bling. :)

Hi Guys

Just to clarify, we did not notice that the race pamphlet still stated that the Prestige is the LDC selection race for 2014, we apologize for any confusion that this may have caused as the LD champs selection race for 2014 is of course the Midlands Ultra event. Further more i would like to reassure you that the Prestige Ultra and sprint event will be taking place! Entries are available @ www.cyclelab.co.za

Face Plant, the cyclelab website mentions the following time for number collection :

"Number Collection:

Cycle Lab Fourways;

Friday 14 February 2014, from 05:00 – 06:45"

Is this time correct?

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone know what the venue is like where the event is being held?

I see its at the Abrahamsrust pleasure resort or something?

Whats this place like, wanna know if I must bring the missus with or not, if its a cr@ppy venue, then I'll tell her to rather stay home....

Anyone?

So who took part yesterday.

I had a great race. Did 5h33, despite having some bike trouble.

My rear tyre went flat 4 times, despite changing the tube. Think there must be something in the tyre that is re-puncturing, will have to give it a more thorough inspection. Had to stop every 10 km to re-inflate my tyre.

Other than that, had a great swim and an awesome run, best half-marathon time I have ever done..

Feeling pretty confident about 6 April

Glad you had a good race Tankisbyon! Very interesting point about the race yesterday is that it was the first time in the history of the event (26 year) that nobody was taken out of the water  everybody that started the swim finished without assistance, according to Eastern lifesaving its a first for them too  All in all i think we had a very successful event with just one guy coming off his bike after sliding on a cateye after going off the road! Congratulations to all the triathletes that finished the race. Word from the medics on the course was that the road surface temp reached 39 deg C at one stage. Good luck to everybody training for Ironman!!

well done. just be glad it wasn't in CT yesterday. Temp went up to around 45 in stellenbosch, paarl area. I registered around 39 in the century city area

I received this in an email from Central Gauteng Triathlon on Friday afternoon. What was this all about?

"Urgent Athlete Information - Prestige UltraTriathlon 2014

Triathlon South Africa (TSA) has already posted on the TSA Website (
)the
withdrawal of sanctioning
of the Prestige Ultra Triathlon 2014. TSA has acted in this manner in the best interest of athletes as the event organiser, as Spectrum Sport, failed to comply with the TSA sanctioning requirements.

Athletes are informed that TSA has advised all the authoritive role players (SASCOC, FS Sport Confederation, SAPS, Cyclelab and others) of the withdrawal of sanctioning.

Athletes are again reminded that the 2014 South African Long Distance Triathlon Championship is co-hosted with the Midlands Ultra Triathlon"

I did the race yesterday! Swim was good, just k*k swimming back with the sun in your eyes, I couldn't really see the boys so just swam towards the sun and hoped for the best.

I got a reading of 88.9kms for the ride! Was nice and flat but the way 2nd lap was a little tougher as 1st as the wind picked up.

The run was great through the suburbs and flattish, also finished with a 19.8km reading on my garmin.

Thanks for a well organized event! Legs are feeling it today but happy with the event overall!!

@Faceplant - you seem to be involved in the event. If TSA withdrew from Prestige event, why do we pay for the TSA Temporary license? Should we not get our R100 back as this is an amount paid to TSA?

I would like to hear your response on this matter

Somehow I doubt you will get anything back from TSA.......
