Nalith Posted January 20, 2014 Share I recently went from using my Garmin Forerunner 310XT to log my rides to the Garmin Edge 810 however I seen massive differences in the estimated calorie burn between the two. The Edge unit is reporting 3x less than my Forerunner. I have checked and my profile is the same on both, anyone ever see this? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As average as averages can be, that calculation is far more accurate than the duration based calc. With the early duration based calc, you could switch your unit on (without even wearing your HR belt) leave it on your desk and disappear. Upon return 3 hrs later, you would have clocked 2500 calories or something stupid. Keep in mind people differ any waaay too many variables needs to be taken into account, variables that a little computer on your handlebar is going to struggle to comprehend. V02 max ratesMetabolism% body fatFitness levelWhst you had for breakfastCO2 absorption rates Etc etc etc I would still like to know what happens when you hit the stop button on your unit after a workout?Dies your body automatically stop burning calories? No it does not! So how much does it keep burning for how long after your workout ... and again we are back to a long list of variables!
