Would like to know if a set of Spinegry Carbon wheels with 4 spokes will be strong enough to put on a Tandem. I am told they are not allowed for licence racing (singles), hence I'll have to put them on our Tandem. Suppose we can ride races with them on the Tandem since when we do Tandem, we are not in the top spot for price money?? My concern is their stability and strength on the Tandem.

Hope this is technically enough info for some advise.

I have seen some bikes with carbon wheels but much of it depends on your weight and resulting power to weight ratio. Best is to chat to Andrew at Cycle lab re this.

I was around when they introduced those wheels lon long ago. The reason they where banned are that those bladed carbon spokes are very sharp when crashing, some people lost fingers  and so.

On the other hands those wheels where fast and definitely look cool and are reasonably strong(where used for cyclocross in the days).

Drawback they are from long ago so do you know the history of your set?? Several sets seem to crack at age and then desintegrated resulting in bad crashes(search the net for spinergy failure and see/read(thats why you often only find the front wheel offered)).

So my five cents. If you are both 60 to 65kg rider riding Argus in 4 hours and don't do scary stuff with dose wheels and have a low milage set go for it.

Is your set high mileage? only good for strolls around the neighbourhood and not on a tandem.

If you look like me 85kg's easily  1500+ watts peak power output don not put them on your tandem even when your stoker is only 40 kg as they will break and you will crash.

Cheers crazy(someone from the old days when spinergy's, spinacci bars where still around and Carbon was rare in frame's)

Thanks to you The Crazy German. No unfortunately I am not in the 60 to 65kg range (closer to that age range). I weigh 85 and my wife about 55 (hope she does not read this). Our Argus time last year was in the region of 3:12 and I am not sure of our power to weight ratio.

The wheels are rather new and have less than 500km on, but if there is a slight chance of braking while we are on the bike, I'll never ever put them on. No ways I'll put my wife to this risk, nor myself.

I was so hoping for some better feedback.
