  1. This is the notice that will go out in the course of the day..... Dear riders We have been monitoring the weather in the Elgin Valley for the last week and the weather sites that we use have predicted very wet, cold and windy conditions for this coming weekend. I cycled across Oak Valley and Paul Cluver farms this past weekend and the trails are wet and muddy. Eikenhof dam is overflowing, having filled up from almost empty in less than 3 months. The ground is saturated. The forecast says there will be rain in excess of 30mm falling in the 24 hours leading up to the start of the race, but the rain will continue falling well into Monday as well. For the sake of your safety, we have decided to postpone the Tiletoria Elgin Valley MTB to Sunday 7 October. This is the earliest available date on the event calendar we could find. The single track on Paul Cluver and Oak Valley farms will be slippery & treacherous. The Groenlandberg is going to be extremely cold, wet and windy. The wind chill factor will push the temperature close to freezing and your usual rain gear will be soaked and not keep you warm. Your hands will be frozen and make gripping the handlebars on rough terrain extremely difficult. It would be irresponsible of us to proceed with the event, knowing the inclement weather will increase the risk of personal injury. Not to mention the accelerated wear & tear on your mountain bikes. I apologise for the inconvenience that our decision may have caused you. We waited as long as possible, hoping the weather would turn, but conditions have worsened. If you are unable to join us on 7 October at the Paul Cluver amphitheatre, we will refund your entry fee. Our sponsors support our decision, but I trust you, the riders, understand why we have taken the decision to postpone the Tiletoria Elgin Valley MTB. Regards Robert
  2. PPA will be emailing all that have entered and we are all busy contacting our web administrators to update all the FB and associated web pages.
  3. Morning All, I have just been notified by Pedal Power Association that the Tiletoria Elgin Valley MTB this weekend will be postponed due to the terrible weather forecast and the highly probable unsafe conditions. The Tiletoria Elgin Valley MTB will now be held on Sunday 7 October 2018. We apologize for the inconvenience, however the safety of the riders are first priority. Regards Michael de Kock.
  4. Enrtries are steadily filling up. Hope you have entered.
  5. Event Name: The Tiletoria PPA Elgin MTB Event - Postponed When: 26 August 2018 Where: Paul Cluver Estate, Western Cape Category: MTB Entries for the Tiletoria Elgin Valley MTB, taking place on Sunday 26 August at the Paul Cluver Estate near Grabouw, are now open An early bird special will be available to the first 25 entrants for each distance. This amounts to a total of 100 entries at drastically reduced prices! Riders have a choice of 4 routes: 70 km, 45 km, 30 km and 15 km. The 70 km route once again takes riders to the top of the iconic Groenlandberg. The long climbs and rutted dual track descents will test the rider’s endurance and skill, while some fast, flowing single track close to the finish line adds a fun element to what will be a tough day on the bike. Both the 45 km and 30 km routes will be using the single tracks on Oak Valley and Paul Cluver farms, while the 15 km route is a flat, non-technical route ideal for beginners and youngsters. All routes will offer a “Race” and “Ride” category, with riders holding a CSA MTB racing license being eligible to compete in the Race categories in their respective WPMTB age categories. Prize money will be up for grabs for the top three male and female cyclists. The 70 km and 45 km routes will count for Wines2Whales seeding. R60 000.00 in prize money will be up for grabs. Food trucks and vendors will be offering a variety of food and beverages at the race village, including craft beer and local wine & cider. Entries are limited to 1500 riders. 8. Hi Glen - well done and you need to contact me with regards to claiming your voucher - 021 202 0160
  9. To my knowledge they do it to stop riders who leave in a later group but post a faster winning time and then want to claim podium. We had that last year hence the racing group - all leave at once so no "claims"
  10. Hi to all. Thanks to all who are participating. The event is oversubscribed and we are looking forward to an awesome day. I will definitely make sure that the event gets published sooner next year. Look forward to seeing all there on Sunday. Regards Michael de Kock Tiletoria
  11. So have you registered? Did you like your little Tiletoria gift?
  12. That's in summer but now with winter there either is no wind or the NWester blows me to works.
  13. Blouberg to Paarden Eiland. From home to work is about 14 km so the the other 10 k's are done working Blouberg Hill which is more like a long bridge and then its 14km flat bicycle lane to work. I do some intervals by using lampposts as counters.
  14. I live in Blouberg and have the wonderful opportunity to commute to work Tues to Thurs doing anything from 20 - 30 km before arriving at work. The route is obviously very flat and was wondering what training I could do on route to simulate hill climbing/build some strength.
  15. Happy Martin - where did you get the stick on lenses?
  16. Regret the age is catching up and am battling to see the HR monitor especially at night and does anyone know where I can get cycling specific clear bifocal glasses. Ocean Eye Wear make a very nice bifocal sunglass but regret don’t have it in clear for night riding. http://www.oceaneyewear.co.za/vmchk/cycle-golf-sport/new-sh385.html
  17. I seem to have isolated it to the saddle because there is no squeak if I > strand and dont pedal > stand and pedal > sit on the front of the seat and pedal The squeak only appears when I sit normally. We changed the saddle and was fine for about 100km but now is back. I think the saddle design is faulty and cannot handle 100kg
  18. I have 2015 Spark 950 and cannot get rid of a noisy saddle. I weigh 100 km and was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem.

  20. Winning time on the long route was 3H00&5seconds
  21. Really chaffed with the entries 878 long 637 medium 95 short Long route was online only but we will still be taking entries for medium and short on the day. We are expecting a turnout of about 2000. Have a great ride and many thanks for the great support.
  22. Hi Rydogg. Sunrise is at 6:09 but it is light from about 5:30.
  23. Hi Omar, we will have the motorbike guys to monitor the groups but there is not much we can do to stop bunches merging. Lets just hope that sanity rules on the day.
